Hi, I’m Zoa Wustrow.
I’m Namibian, 22 years old and I’m studying Biochemistry and Genetics at the University of Cape Town.
I started a cute little food blog called Salted Butter at the young age of 15 in 2013. In 2016 I had the bright idea to go vegan for a year to see what would happen. Needless to say, it changed my life. I am no longer vegan but I still practise the valuable lessons veganism has taught me, namely that VEGETABLES TASTE GOOD!
Who woulda thunk it?
This blog started off as a public recipe journal because I couldn’t stop taking pictures of the food I made and the recipes I developed. It soon turned into a regular blog with thoughts and feelings and a whole bunch of vegan recipes. Over time it seemed as if I’d outgrown the blog and I just stopped writing. It ended up collecting virtual dust and was eventually abandoned in a little corner of the internet. I thought it died due to a lack of inspiration, but it turns out it was the version of myself that I was at the time who had died. That sounds a little pretentious but let’s be honest, people change and old versions of ourselves die all the time. It’s part of life.
Over the past few years since going vegan I’ve noticed that people don’t eat their veggies. Especially people who come from households that hold meat as the star component of the meal and vegetables as a lacklustre second thought.
I would like to change that. I want to put vegetables in the spotlight where they deserve to be.
Although I’m no longer vegan, I eat a mostly plant-based diet and I’m obsessed with and inspired by the superfoods that are fruit and vegetables. Many people ask me for vegan or vegetarian recipes because they want to try the plant based diet out or because they simply want to eat healthier. I would like to create a platform that has all the tools you’ll need to easily incorporate more fruit and veggies into your diet and look at them as the true heroes that they are.
This will NOT be a vegan platform. You will find meat and dairy sprinkled here and there. My aim is to get you to eat more vegetables, not to go vegan (but if that happens, then thrive baby, thrive). So if you’re one of those people who “can’t survive without meat” don’t worry about it.
I want this platform to inspire people to eat and live healthier, be happier, and to fall in love with the real MVPs; vegetables. I especially want to convince the peaky eaters who may be intimidated by plants that there’s absolutely nothing to be afraid of because plot twist, vegetables can actually taste really good.
Feel free to like, comment or share anything on this platform. I want this to be a free and happy space for everyone to feel delicious and inspired in. Additionally, I would love to know what content you would like to receive from me so don’t be afraid to contact me.
